Ferdinand Fox’s Big Sleep | Apps For Kids

2

FerdinandFerdinand Fox’s Big Sleep – interactive rhyming story book app for kids is a wonderful way to support early reading for kids! Kids love rhyming and the rhyming format of this book app makes learning fun. The narration is done in a soothing voice that will entice kids to keep going. As they tap around they will see and hear words spoken. Since kids love to tap, this is much like having flash cards come alive!
The matching game is shown in one of the videos in part. It covers all of the words that kids can tap and learn throughout the story. This is the perfect Teacher Tool to assist in reading lessons or to have kids use as a special reward!

This app is presented to us by Well Said Press Kids’ Book Apps. Be sure to read the interview below from the author!

Meet The Author!

Karen-Inglis_headshot_high-resWhat was the initial inspiration for your app?

I’m a children’s’ author here in the UK and the story is based on my color picture book of the same name. The tale itself was inspired by the true story of a beautiful fox that slept in my garden one afternoon. A friend went out to take a photo, convinced that it would run off – but it didn’t! It barely opened one eye to look up before going back to sleep! During the following days and weeks I began to imagine all of the dreams the fox must have been having. And then the rhyme began to come…And that’s what led to the story!

What is your favorite aspect of your app?

I think the fact that it offers a shared reading experience for parents and children – in the same way that a print picture book does – but with added interactivity that is both fun and educational. Of course children can also enjoy the app on their own using the ‘Read to me’ option where I narrate. The matching game at the end is fun too and builds on the word/object learning! Oh – and I love the zooming in feature for the camera and the jelly wobble gurgling noise!

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

If you enjoy the app you might want to take a look at the color picture book and separate coloring book of Ferdinand Fox’s Big Sleep on Amazon. They use the same images as in the app and I know of one parent whose son has both and loves imitating the sounds and repeating the words from the app when touching the pictures in the print book!  If you have older children do check out my time travel adventure ‘The Secret Lake’ for age 8-11 yrs and ‘Eeek! The Runaway Alien’ for age 7-10 about an alien who runs away to Earth during the World Cup 🙂

Thanks, Mary, for putting together this lovely page. I do hope that parents/grandparents, teachers and carers will enjoy the shared reading experience that Ferdinand Fox’s Big Sleep offers for younger ones. And as well as the word bubbles, the children will find some fun surprises when touching objects – such as the jelly wobbling, the sun ‘cheering’ and one of the clouds disappearing with a fun popping noise! (And a few more features…) I’ve tried to offer a mix of education and simple fun interactivity! I think/hope it works! It was a lot of work but I enjoyed every minute of creating this app 🙂
