What was the initial inspiration for your app?

Our boss has an eight-year-old kid, Tom, who was diagnosed with autism. We were working on another project when we visited one of Tom’s Special Needs Centers to know more about how they teach kids. We noticed that they keep a lot of bulky solid-colored boxes containing different toys and objects. Teachers enlightened us that they teach sorting to little children using these boxes. Caregivers shared with us that sorting is a relatively hard subject to instill to children with special needs, that is why they try to incorporate them in their everyday lives. This inspired us and our boss, who gave us even more ideas about sorting. Together with his ideas and our teams’ inputs, we started making the app, with me as the developer and illustrator.

What is your favorite aspect of your app?

Our favorite aspect is the map. It’s still very small right now, but we have big plans to make it more extensive, teaching children level per level on how to sort different objects by their different aspects.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

This app is borne out of great love and incredible opportunity. Our company is a business that focuses on websites, middleware, cloud services and mobile apps for the big people. Our boss has given us this wonderful blessing to work on projects that focus on little children, especially those who have special needs. With this rare opportunity, our small team of three worked on this project long and hard, developing friendship along the way. You may say that this app, including Words and Blocks and the upcoming Tom Taps, is the love note of our friendship, and I hope you will love it the way we already do.
