Meet The Developers!

12AnimalsDevWhat was the initial inspiration for your app?

My husband and I speak to our 3 years old daughter in Chinese at home. We have noticed that as China’s economy emerges, there is a worldwide trend to learn Chinese. At the same time, many families now carry smartphones, iPad’s, or tablet computers. While the appropriateness for letting young children play with these devices is debatable, there are no doubts that many children, including our daughter, are able to master using these devices with ease.

One day I had an idea to develop an educational app for portable devices to teach children Chinese rather than just use them for games. I was able to develop the “12 Animals of Chinese Year” app containing artworks, screenplays, and multiple language support with my illustrators, programmers, and translators. Children who have used this app have learned to speak and recognize Chinese words.

What is your favorite aspect of your app?

The “12 Animals of Chinese Year” app is designed to teach different levels of Chinese learners. It contains BOOK, MUSIC, GAME, INFO buttons to choose from. For beginners, there are easy learning tools: Practice, Tower game, Library, and Songs to help the user to listen and read Chinese words. Memory and Match games are more challenging but fun for higher level learners. In addition, the user can play games which give the user a chance to earn bonus learning cards containing additional Chinese words and phrases, like “Thank you”, “Good morning”, “Speak”, etc.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Learning foreign languages is not easy, but it is important to make it a fun process for both children and their parents.
We developed “12 Animals of Chinese Year” first because most people know about the “Chinese Zodiac”, and children love animals. We plan to publish additional apps to teach more topics in Chinese this year. For updates, you can
